**SUPER RAFFLE**

Fundraising is a necessary function for all youth volunteer organizations and the HBAA (High Bridge Athletic Association - Hunterdon Huskies) is no exception. We rely on all families to help in this regard to make the organization the best it can be. These fundraising efforts will allow us to keep the registration fee at a reasonable level, allow for the purchase of high-quality, safe equipment, and help cover high general costs. There will be mandatory fundraising during the season and additional fundraising activities may be necessary to achieve our future goals and playoff/competition expenses.

We ask that each family sell a minimum of 2 tickets for the Super Raffle to support the organization. The sale of each ticket includes 2 seats at the Super Raffle dinner held on October 19, 2018 (RSVP requested) at the Glen Gardner VFW, 179 Main St, Glen Gardner.

Tickets are requested to be returned on or before Sunday, October 14, 2018. For more information please email hunterdonhuskies@outlook.com

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Picture 1 14U Huskies Pre-Game
Picture 2 #22 Alex Uryniak on 68yd TD run
Picture 3 #99 Joe Drew recovers fumble on 5yd Line

9/9 - 14U - Huskies 28 – Hazlet 6

The Huskies 14U took on Hazlet Sunday for their 3rd game of the season.  The Huskies would jump out to a 28-0 lead after one quarter.  Alex Grantham would call an excellent game under center and would lead the team on 4 TD drives in the first 10 minutes.  Alex Uryniak would score 3 times and Kente Edwards would score once behind excellent blocking from Hunter Vos, Jake Macce, Kaydn Ford, and Chadwick Bennett.  The defense would stand up until the last play of the game with Anthony Moscatello, Joe Drew, Firoz Davis, Cody Blaine, Michael Maltz and Danny Delusant all having great games.  The Huskies travel to Freehold on Sunday for a divisional game.

9/9 - 10U - Huskies 25 – St. Bart’s 0

The Hunterdon Huskies hosted St. Barts on Sunday, at a rainy Union Forge Field.  The Huskies scored first on a slow and controlled drive.  The amazing offensive line gave the ball handlers plenty of opportunities to move the ball straight down the gut of St. Bart's defense.  Then, the Huskies defense clamped down on the Buffalo's hopes of equalizing, with a near perfect defensive day that yielded negative offensive yards, for the visitors.  An emotional Coach Farley summed up the day when he stated, "Defenses win championships."  With a score of 25-0 and 4:30 left in the fourth quarter, the referees ended the game out of safety concerns for the visiting team.

9/9 - 8/9U - Huskies 0 - Hazlet 12

Continuing to excite the Husky Nation, your 8/9 team once again had the crowd screaming at Union Forge Field this past weekend as the young dogs fell to St Barts with a score of 12-0. This team understands what it means to have purpose, they understand what it means to have hope and they definitely understand what it means to not have excuses as they left it all on the field until the final buzzer at the end of the fourth quarter. Each week this team keeps getting better and keeps impressing their coaching staff said a proud special team coordinator and assistant coach Sean Callanan. Coach Callanan continued to praise the 8/9 team using the example of the almost nonexistent amount of penalties called during Sundays game.

Defensive line penetration against one of the largest offensive lines in our conference was key to keeping low points on the board. Leading the way through the Buffalo interior was Husky newcomer Tadgh Bailey. At nose guard, Bailey consistently put pressure in the backfield and recorded multiple behind the line of scrimmage sacks.

On offense, no one in attendance on this rainy Hunterdon County Sunday can deny the passion of starting offensive lineman Cody Taylor. However, this past weekend, football fans (especially those who grew up in the ‘80’s) were treated to “the Kodiak” replicating William “the Refrigerator” Perry as he ran the ball for positive yardage playing fullback for the first time this season.

Both Bailey and Taylor had much to be proud of against St Barts including being named captains moving into week 4 against Keyport in Keyport at 10:30 this Sunday.

Flag Football

FOOTBALL - THE WEEK IN REVIEW

9/1 - 14U - Huskies 27 - Berkeley 0
The Huskies 14U played Berkeley under the lights on Saturday night, jumping out to a 27-0 lead after the first quarter and maintaining the shut out for the rest of the game.  Firoz Davis started the game off with a nifty 60yd TD return on the kickoff.  Kente Edwards would recover the onsides kick, score a touchdown, and team with Joe Drew to cause a fumble during the first several plays of the game.   Alex Uryniak would break of runs of 35 and 70 yds for Touchdowns to put the game out of reach early for the Huskies.  On defense Danny Delusant and Anthony Moscatello had excellent games from linebacker, Kaydn Ford and Cody Blaine shut down their air attack, while Jake Macce, Eric Sokolowski, and Akil Gilbert stuffed their running game at the line. The Huskies face Hazlet next week who was an excellent team at 12U last year.

9/1 - 10U - Huskies 0 - Jackson 13
The Huskies 10U traveled south to play Jackson at “The Field of Dreams.”  The night game was highlighted by two very aggressive defenses. An early turnover on the Huskies’ first possession lead to a Jackson touchdown just a few minutes into the game. The remaining 3.5 quarters saw the ball move back and forth with no scoring. “You win or you learn. We got exposed by a great team and learned a lot about what we need to do to become a more complete team,” said Coach VanVolkenburgh. The non-conference loss has no impact on the team’s playoff hopes, but serves as a reminder of just how competitive the Jersey Shore league can be. The Huskies 10U host St. Bart’s this Sunday at Union Forge Field.

9/2 - 8/9U - Huskies 0 - Hazlet 19
After coming off a 6-point difference in their season opener, the Husky 8/9 team showed their families, friends, and fans what The Hunterdon Husky Program is all about this past Sunday in Hazlet. Digging deep and overcoming exhaustion against a 24 player Hawk roster; your young dogs played to the whistle on every play and wouldn’t stop giving everything they got until the final buzzer showed a 19-0 loss on the scoreboard. But what the scoreboard didn’t show is that these 16 young men never had a single mental breakdown as they strove for personal bests leading to team accomplishments. And team accomplishments were a plenty in front of the capacity crowd of faithful Husky followers that outnumbered the number of fans on the opposite side of the field.
Only letting up 6 points at the close of the first half, the Husky defense was led by hard hitting defensive end Owen Akers who led the team in both tackles and assists for the day. With Akers shutting down the outside, the Hawks were forced to change their game plan, but they didn’t count on defensive tackle Cody Taylor who forced many broken plays on the interior line.
On offense, running backs Jordan Riley, Nic Alparone, and Ben Delusant consistently came up with big runs around a very tricky defensive scheme. Offensive Coordinator Coach Robert Riley exclaimed that all 3 running backs were given tremendous respect from the Hawks this past weekend and gained valuable experience for future games. Although the defense was tough, not a spectator can deny the heart and passion of first year player Aaron Adair at tight end who played like a veteran this past weekend and proved he is ready for the rest of the season.
Moving into week 3, Akers and Riley were named team captains for the week as the young dogs prepare for St Bart’s Buffalos at home on Sunday at 10:30am.
WORTH NOTING: At the end of the game, your Husky coaching staff was approached by the referees and told, “We want you coaches to know that we have never seen a more disciplined team at this level of play in all our years of officiating.”

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

8/26 - 14U - Huskies 29 - Keyport 0

The 14U Huskies kicked off their season with a home game, taking the victory over Keyport with a 29-0 win.  Kente Edwards had 2 rushing TD’s, Alex Uryniak had a TD passing and one running, and Anthony Moscatello caught a 30yd TD pass to complete the Huskies Scoring. The unsung heroes of the offense were Alex Grantham, Joe Drew, and Firoz Davis all who played multiple skill and line positions.  The Defense was paced by Jake Macce, Cody Blaine and Danny Delusant who each made multiple tackles.  Rookies Ethan Lizzie and Selvin Guerra played excellent in their official Huskies debut!  Next week the Huskies visits Berkeley.

8/26 - 10U - Huskies 29 - Long Branch 6

The Hunterdon Huskies 10U met the Long Branch Green Wave in the season's first game.  The day was defined by offensive execution and defensive oppression by the Huskies.  Coach Tony was quoted as saying, "The boys are disciplined and very comfortable playing in a competitive game.  I am very proud of their execution and the final score reflects all of their hard work."  The offensive line was near perfect allowing Antonio Sauchelli to run one in from the Green Wave's 35-yard line.  Matt Farley and Nick Ramaci scored next.  The last TD was in the air by a pass from Jordan Lato to Hunter Brown.  Hunter brown also contributed 4 extra points by going 2-3 on PATs. Coach Rich summed it up best when he said, "Our defense played great.  The final score was 29-6.  As long as we can keep our opponent from finding the end zone, I see many wins for this crew."  The Huskies 10U travel to Jackson this Saturday to play under the lights at 7PM.

8/26 - 8/9U - Huskies 14 - Long Branch 20

Proving their 2018 team mantra of progress over perfection, the Hunterdon Husky 8/9 team once again did not disappoint football fans visiting Custom Alloy Field for the highly anticipated season opener against Long Branch. Taking control on their first possession, the offensive squad drove 45 yards for a touchdown on a 7-yard td run by running back Jordan Riley. Quarterback Hart Callanan ran untouched on a quick keeper for the extra point as the Huskies took the lead in the first quarter 7-0.

Defensively, the young huskies completely controlled the interior line with tremendous performances by rookie sensation Edwin Constable who terrorized running backs with numerous tackles and assists. In the defensive secondary, Parker Brown was definitely a discussion amongst the Long Branch coaching staff as he seemed to always show up at the right time to discourage the Green Wave running backs chances to put more points on the board. Both Constable and Brown were named captains moving into week 2.

Never quitting, the husky offense scored one more time in the 4th quarter with a dramatic reverse play with less than 1-minute left in the game. As Callanan called the signals, running back Nic Alparone sold a fake handoff setting up Ben Delusant with a 10-yard TD that brought Union Forge to their feet.

Offensive line coach Bob Alparone praised the leadership of Kyle Jensen and Matt Hillman who together performed at a division 1 level with their flawless execution of running the plays in and out for the young offense. Running in plays from the sideline has never been done at this age level in the history of the Huskies.

Our 8/9 team will continue to make Hunterdon Husky History next week as they take on the Hazlet Hawks in Hazlet at 10:30 am this coming Sunday.

Flag Football

These last two weeks our youngest athletes hit the field running! They’re learning the basics of the game and progressing well.  Please welcome Steve Voyce, Shane Burd and Ken Kozminski to the Huskies Coaching staff who are preparing the team for their first game on September 8th at St Bart’s.
