Concussion imPACT Testing
As we begin the 2015 football and cheer seasons, your child's safety is our top priority.
The Hunterdon Huskies are pleased to provide our athletes with a premier concussion management program. All Hunterdon Huskies football and cheer athletes aged 10 and over are provided a baseline ImPACT test, free of charge, from the St. Luke’s Concussion Center. This is a 20 minute, computerized neurocognitive test that can be used as a tool in assessing when an athlete has recovered from a concussion. It is being given by a member of the concussion center on-site at Voorhees High School. The school has generously donated its computer clusters for us to use to perform the baseline tests. The ImPACT test is a valid test for patients aged 10 and up. Unfortunately, no valid computerized neurocognitive test exists to date for those less than 10 years old. For this age group, we will rely on symptom scores and serial neurologic exams to determine when it is safe to allow an athlete to return to play.
The baseline testing is good for two years, so all those athletes who received the testing in 2013 will need to be retested this year. All athletes tested in 2014 do not need the test this year. Any athletes new to Hunterdon Huskies this year, age 10 and above, needs the testing.
The dates for this years testing at Voorhees High School are July 13th, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and July 20th, also from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
